Draw This Again Meme

According to this meme, you’re supposed to redraw an old piece that you “love/used to love.” Well, I’m ignoring that rule once again because I knew the original version of this pic was not my best work back when I first did it. In fact, I’d abandoned the piece when it wasn’t turning out like I’d hoped, but circumstances compelled me to finish it.

Back in 2004, I’d purchased a story from "Bea"
, who has written a lot of fiction around forced feminization. For whatever reason, after a few days, it still hadn’t shown up in my in-box. So, to find out what was up, I sent an email to the author. Bea was nice about the whole thing and sent me a couple free stories as compensation, in addition to the one I’d originally ordered.

As a way of saying “thank you,” I wanted to send Bea some art, but unfortunately, the only drawing I had done that was related to his (I’m not gonna dance around pronouns; Bea is a guy) field of interest was this sorry, incomplete drawing, but figuring it was better than nothing, I finished coloring it in photoshop and sent it off to him. I doubt he was that impressed, but nevertheless, he asked if I’d mind if he put it on his website. He never got around to it, though.

However, after a few years, my work improved and I gained some more practice drawing similar stuff, which Bea did add to his site, which in turn led to some outside interest in my art, which led to some illustration work. I don’t think anybody would have wanted to pay me to illustrate anything if they’d seen that pic from 2004.

Side note: During our initial correspondence, in giving my thoughts on the story I’d ordered, I said it was a nice change of pace that things ended well for the protagonist for once, which inadvertently gave Bea the false impression I had a negative attitude towards forced feminization. It seems I couldn’t help coming across as overly down on this genre even back then.

There was no word balloon in the original version, but I had to do something to cover up the blatantly pornographic “painting” on the wall in the background, which, ironically, is better than the main piece itself.

What’s sad is that I think I actually used photo references for the
original and I still couldn’t get it looking any better than I did.
Somewhat amazingly, I didn’t consult any reference material for the updated version- except for the boat. Obviously, I knew that no matter what I did, it would be an improvement over the original, but I’m still kinda pleasantly surprised by how well it turned out. Perhaps not being overly concerned with realism helped.

Q; What if one wishes to see the uncensored version of the “blatantly pornographic “painting””?

A; Well, I wouldn’t recommend it, but they can always google Rick’s Story Page and look at the story “Oh, Governess!” There they can see other examples of my lousy artwork from that time period as well. I used to provide that author with free illustrations out of the goodness of my heart, until I realized I didn’t really much care for Rick’s stories (or Rick).
